MLflow Weak Password Requirements Authentication Bypass Vulnerability. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to bypass authentication on affected installations of MLflow. Authentication is not required to exploit this vulnerability. The specific flaw exists within the handling of passwords. The issue results from weak password requirements. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to bypass authentication on the system. Was ZDI-CAN-26916.
The problem lies in the password handling mechanism in MLflow — the system does not properly enforce strong requirements regarding password complexity or length (CWE-521). An attacker can exploit this weakness to remotely bypass authentication without user interaction or knowledge of existing login credentials. The exploit does not require any prior privileges or special network conditions.
An attacker can gain unauthorized access to MLflow installations, potentially leading to complete compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data and machine learning models stored in the system.
Apply the patch available in the MLflow repository (commit 1f74f3f24d8273927b8db392c23e108576936c54) and update the installation according to the vendor's recommendations. Additionally, it is recommended to force password changes on all accounts and implement strong password complexity policies.
